MINIMAL ACCESS BARIATRIC SURGERY :

Bariatric Surgery deals with complex gastrointestinal surgical procedures using the latest minimally invasive techniques. TYPES OF CONDITIONS OR DISESASES TREATED

  • Morbid Obesity
  • Morbid obesity associated with or without metabolic syndrome

Obesity is defined as Body weight 30% greater than the Ideal body weight or 25% excessive body fat for men and 35% excessive body fat for women. But precisely, if the Body Mass Index (BMI) is 30 Kg/m2 or greater, it's called Obesity.


DIAGNOSIS ON CLINICAL METHODOLOGY :

  • Diagnosis based on BMI (Body Mass Index) of the patient BMI >32.5 with medical co-morbidities of Diabetic Mellitus/ Hypertension/ Sleep Apnea/ Joint Deformities etc, or BMI > 37.5 without co-morbidities are indication for intervention.
  • Pathological causes of obesity are ruled out or corrected before intervention.

MEDICAL INTERVENTION :

Medical intervention indicated in patient unfit/ unwilling for definitive surgical intervention, it includes:

  • Nutritional counseling and Diet charts
  • Pharmacological agents
  • Exercise schedule/ Physiotherapy guidance
  • Occupational therapy guidance

SURGICAL INTERVENTION :

Surgical Intervention based and individualized on the following:

  • BMI of the patient
  • Associated Co-morbidities
  • Age of the patient
  • Dietary habits of the patient
  • Expected weight loss expectations
  • Two type of surgical intervention;

  • Sleeve Gastrectomy
  • Gastric banding
  • Roux En Y Gastric BypassStandard surgical guidelines followed.
  • All surgeries done Laproscopically.

    Weight loss according to surgeries performed;

  • R.Y.G.B = Weight loss= 70%--80% of EBW
  • Sleeve Gastrectomy= 50%--70% of EBW
  • Maximum weight loss at 18months to 2years
